Expressive Computer Vision
⌝ A series of exploratory procedural systems aimed at expressive translation ⌞
What happens to the creative dynamic when the algorithm is the Artist and we are the Curators?
This is an increasingly pertinent discussion to have. As technologies become increasingly capable at facilitating large parts of the creative and design process our attention shifts to focus on designing systems rather than creating designs. How can we actively collaborate with technology, leaning into what each actor is good at rather than simply stopping at automation or else fighting for creative dominance?
Expressive Computer Vision is a research series of exploratory systems designed by FutureDeluxe to creatively guide the computer in artistically painting its own portraits and abstracts, by procedurally interpreting a wide range of inputs such as photography, 3D scan data & video.
Algorithmic Translations
↓
The systems are designed to translate what is being shown to them (inputs) and are manipulated / crafted to bring out detail in the right places (outputs)
(1.) Systematic form finding algorithms can be modified to alter the output characteristics (2.)
Inputs
↓
The algorithms are flexible and can accommodate depth inputs such as 3D scans.
(01) 3D scan point cloud. (02) gestural path finding. (03) foundational paint applications.
AR Translation & Scalabililty

Similar principles were then explored and applied here in an AR filter.
